Description

An interactive video-based Spanish-language conversational simulation created by Edward Schneider and Junius Bennion in which learners navigate branching encounters in a Mexican village and record spoken responses for evaluation.

Components

  • Montevidisco conversational simulator: Montevidisco, conceptualized by Edward Schneider and Junius Bennion, is an interactive video program simulating a visit to a Mexican village in which the student is the main protagonist, encountering tour guides, hotel clerks, and market salespeople and responding to questions and situations in context. The student selects from on-screen options and speaks the response, which is recorded for teacher or proctor evaluation; the tour guide then has one of four possible answers directing the student to different branches, each with further branches. The adventure game element is intended to motivate students to explore the town and be exposed to a great deal of native Spanish. (Gale et al. (1985))
