Description¶
A Georgia State University, Georgia Department of Education, and ISTE professional-development programme offering free online micro-courses and ISTE-aligned badges for K–12 teachers integrating computational thinking into non-computing subjects.
Components¶
- Project MICRO micro-courses and ISTE integrated-CT micro-credential badges: Project MICRO (Micro-credentials for Integrating Computing Responsibly into Other Domains) is a set of three free, online, self-paced micro-courses of about one college credit hour each, co-created by Georgia State University, the Georgia Department of Education, and ISTE. Courses cover everyday computing, information literacy, cybersecurity, data, CT concepts (abstraction, algorithms, automation, decomposition, debugging), block-based programming, and teaching methods. Teachers can submit assignments, including lesson plans, to earn ISTE badges aligned to the Integrated CT Endorsement: "CT learner", "CT designer", and "CT facilitator". (Lauren E. Margulieux · Brendan D. Calandra · Bryan Cox (2026))
Claims¶
- The MICRO online PD significantly increased teachers' confidence that they could integrate computing into their classrooms (g = 0.72) [+M]
- The MICRO online PD significantly increased teachers' belief that CT can be integrated into other content areas (g = 0.66) [+M]
- Teacher-created integrated lesson plans showed strong use of familiar CT concepts but automation was the least used concept (3 of 17 plans) [+M]
- Lesson plans incorporated far fewer CS programming skills than CT concepts, with no CS skill averaging above 1 [+M]
- The free, self-paced micro-courses showed an 82% completion retention rate, and most participants found the online, asynchronous format appealing [+M]
