Description

A justice-centered framework proposed by Shahin Hossain et al. for developing responsible generative-AI literacy among K–12 pre-service and in-service teachers through six interdependent pillars.

Components

  • Three-level developmental rubric (Emerging, Competent, Advanced) for each RAIL-Ed pillar across the teacher-preparation continuum: RAIL-Ed is developmental: "each pillar advancing through Emerging, Competent, and Advanced levels (Table 6)", specifying how each of the six pillars matures across the K–12 teacher-preparation continuum. Pre-service and in-service teachers are treated as developmentally connected points along a single continuum rather than as separate audiences. This rubric is one of the three architectural commitments distinguishing RAIL-Ed from existing AI literacy frameworks, which the authors argue name a destination without a theory of how to reach it.
