Description¶
RAMPUP is a named mathematics-learning programme developed and run by its project team, using contextualized activity structures to support students’ equivalence reasoning.
Components¶
- RAMPUP uses six contextualized activity structures to elicit convergent, relational, and transformational equivalence reasoning: The brief illustrates equivalence reasoning through six RAMPUP contexts that overlap with but are not identical to typical school topics: mazes (connected components as equivalence classes), sliding puzzles, graphs of networks, the mean as point of balance, functions as alphabetic codes (integers modulo 26), and perspective drawing. As stated, "This section offers examples from observations of RAMPUP field trials and analysis of written student work." Table 3 maps student utterances in each context onto the three framework approaches. (Haiwen Chu (2024))
