Description¶
A web-based system developed by Vidal-Abarca et al. for presenting texts and adjunct questions while recording and classifying students' online reading and question-answering processes.
Components¶
- Read&Learn web-based system for recording reading and question-answering processes: Read&Learn is a computer web-based system used to present texts and adjunct questions and to record students' online reading actions (Vidal-Abarca et al., 2018). Text segments and questions are masked and "To read a masked segment, students had to click on it", which lets the system register which segments are consulted, when, and for how long, classifying rereading as relevant or non-relevant per question. In this study it delivered both the inserted-question single-screen condition and the post-reading two-screen condition. (Alba Rubio et al. (2022))
Claims¶
- Inserted questions elicit more correct and fewer incorrect elaborations than post-reading questions, with no condition differences in paraphrases [+W]
- Students in the inserted-question condition spend more time reading the text initially than students in the post-reading condition [+W]
- Post-reading-question students search significantly more text segments than inserted-question students, indicating less efficient search [+W]
- Post-reading-question students spend more time reading the questions for the first time than inserted-question students [+W]
- Answering inserted adjunct questions with the text available produces higher delayed transfer learning than answering post-reading questions [+W]
- Question timing interacts with relevance of rereading: inserted-question students reread more relevant and less non-relevant information than post-reading students [+W]
