Description

A paper-and-pencil assessment battery by L. W. Sackett measuring elementary pupils' timed story recall, reading, and direction-following performance through two scored tests and an Alertness Quotient.

Components

  • Sackett's mental alertness tests (story recall plus story exercises) with Alertness Quotient scoring: A two-part paper-and-pencil battery: Test 1 is a short story the pupil reads and reproduces from memory in his own words, and Test 2 is a set of fifteen questions and exercises based on the story. Scoring divides accomplishment by time: "In each case the 'score' forms the numerator and the 'time' the denominator of a fraction while the resulting quotient is the index of ability in the test," designated the Alertness Quotient. Test 2's parts have printed differential weights (1, 4, 2, 5, 5, 8, 8, 6, 9, 5, 3, 4, 3, 5, 12), though these were not used in the reported study. (L. W. Sackett (1917))
