Description¶
Scholar is an early symbolic-AI teaching system that taught geographical facts and relationships through question asking and answering.
Components¶
- Scholar, one of the first AI-based teaching systems: Scholar is presented as one of the first AI-based teaching systems in a field the article dates as some 50 years old. It was "based on symbolic AI rather than machine learning, and had the rudimentary pedagogy of asking and answering questions about geographical facts and relationships" (Carbonell, 1970). The article uses Scholar as the baseline against which progress along its seven dimensions is traced. (Benedict du Boulay (2024))
