Description¶
Splash is a software-based virtual laboratory in which learners manipulate physical variables, conduct simulated experiments, and observe resulting phenomena.
Components¶
- Splash virtual laboratory for buoyancy and Archimedes' principle: Splash is a virtual laboratory covering five topics: three on buoyancy (used to activate prior knowledge and familiarize learners) and two on Archimedes' principle. Learners design balls with chosen mass, volume and density, drop them in water-filled containers, and observe whether they "sink fully, are suspended, or float in water"; for Archimedes' principle, displaced water flows into containers displaying its mass and volume, or forces. The article notes virtual laboratories allow variables to take many values and are accurate, time- and cost-effective, and easily repeated. (Siswa van Riesen et al. (2018))
