Description

A Yun et al. framework organizing criteria for selecting and designing equitable kindergarten entry assessments around content, administration, and validity.

Components

  • Three-component framework for high-quality, equitable kindergarten entry assessments: content, administration, and validity: The report organizes research and policy recommendations on early childhood assessment into three components. A high-quality KEA should 'have content that effectively measures essential developmental domains in ways that are developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant and can be connected to a system of ongoing formative assessment across p–3,' have administration procedures that are practical and fair for all young children, and yield results that are accurate for all children assessed. The framework is summarized in Table 1 as guiding considerations for choosing high-quality KEAs and draws on recommendations from the National Research Council, CEELO, NIEER, NAEYC, CCSSO, and other bodies.
