Description¶
Smith et al. (2026) propose the Workforce Readiness Level as a nine-stage, artifact-based assessment for rating pre-service engineering students' and incumbent manufacturing workers' demonstrated smart-manufacturing competency.
Components¶
Claims¶
- Cohort workforce-readiness index ranged from 5.2 to 6.4 across the four highlighted cases [+W]
- The WRL rubric transferred unchanged across four industry sectors, with research- and industry-mentored capstones yielding broadly comparable pillar profiles [+W]
- The no-thin-pillar rule was diagnostically informative in three of four cases and the binding constraint in one [+W]
- P2 pillar means rose from 1.3 to 2.7 between two successive unmatched teams on the same sponsor problem [+W]
- Advancement to WRL 7 was observed only after industry-embedded exposure, not additional coursework [+W]
