Description¶
Through inductive thematic analysis of definitions and measures of engagement across the 88 included studies, the review developed a taxonomy of engagement themes: effort, interpersonal skills or behavior, attention, enjoyment, participation, skills, interest, usability, motivation, valuing, and miscellaneous themes (belonging, responsibility, tension). The review states "This resulted in the identification of 14 themes (see Table 4; Clarke & Braun, 2017)", each with related terms and example definitions and measures. The taxonomy shows engagement's multidimensional nature in children's digital learning contexts.
