Description¶
The article proposes that evaluation of adaptive systems should extend beyond Mark and Greer's goals to "a new range of evaluative goals which go beyond the quality of learning outcomes, learning efficiency, transfer, retention, and short-term motivation." Table 1 lists learner-focused evaluable goals a-n, adding metacognitive understanding and regulatory skill, meta-affective awareness and regulation of feelings, pleasure in learning for its own sake, participation in learning activities, and cooperation between learners, each with suggested measures such as think-aloud problem-solving, self-reports, open learner models and long-delayed post-questionnaires.
