Description¶
The emote-aloud procedure is a modification of the cognitive-science think-aloud method in which participants state aloud the affective state they are feeling while working on a learning task. Participants were given functional definitions of eight affective states drawn from Merriam-Webster OnLine and were video recorded while interacting with AutoTutor, verbalising states "without external prompts from the system or pressure from an experimenter in the room". The method "allows for on-line identification of affective states while working on a task, with minimal task interference" and proved useful for identifying points during learning where affective events occurred.
