Description¶
The paper extends Strobel et al.'s (2024) taxonomy of GenAI applications — originally derived from 100 commercial and professional applications — into a classification lens for educational settings. The five types are Generator, Reimaginator, Synthesizer, Assistant, and Enabler, differing along two dimensions: "the degree of creativity — the extent to which GenAI output aims to innovate rather than improve, and 2) the degree of modification — the extent to which the GenAI output departs from the input." Each type is operationalized for higher education (e.g., Enabler reinterpreted as a competence-scaffolding role targeting higher-order competences), enabling classification of how epistemic work is distributed between student and GenAI in a learning activity.
