Description¶
The study operationalizes quality formative feedback on writing using five deductively coded components: the degree to which feedback "was criteria-based, provided clear directions for improvement, was accurate, prioritized essential features, and used a supportive tone." Each component is scored 1-5 with anchored rubric descriptors (e.g., criteria-based ranges from all feedback generic to consistently explicit genre criteria; supportive tone ranges from directive, unaffirming language to suggestive, affirming language). The framework, derived from a literature review and expert consultation, grounds the Writer(s)-Within-Community model's reconceptualization process, where quality feedback helps students compare their writing to genre ideals and identify specific improvement steps.
