Description

This framework conceptualizes design judgment as the ability to gain subconscious insights abstracted from experience and reflection in complex, indeterminate situations, and identifies multiple forms of judgment exercised across design situations. The article operationalizes the types for ID as a coding framework: "framing, deliberated off hand, default, core, instrumental, appearance, appreciative, connective, compositional, navigational, and quality." Table 1 defines each type with sample actions in the ID process, and the framework was extended as new actions were identified in interview data.
