Description¶
A model that rates each school's effectiveness by regressing average school test scores on school poverty level and standardizing the residuals. As the article describes it, "the school effectiveness ratings start by finding regression equations relating average school test scores to the poverty level of each school," and schools are rated by standardized residuals averaged over all tests given in a year. Ratings are relative, following roughly a cumulative normal distribution with mean near zero and standard deviation about .75, and incorporate all systemwide tests in grades three through five. The article uses the model both to identify high-performing schools and as a tool for ex post fac

Claims¶
- Direct Instruction schools' ratings rose significantly only when the program was fully supported with training and coaching [+M]
