Description¶
The review developed an inductive, iterative coding framework to classify knowledge claims about preparing teachers for diverse learners. It began with two broad issues — "Issues of ITE diversity content" and "Issues of ITE delivery relevant to diversity" — and expanded these into six codes, including arguments about knowledge needed, specific program approaches such as specialist courses and partnerships, challenges relating to ITE students' beliefs, challenges relating to teacher educators' context, beliefs and skills, and a final code for "Papers marked by an overt commitment to social justice and social transformation through education". The framework was tested for inter-coder agreement and applied to all 209 papers.
