Description¶
Trio-ethnography brings three participants (here two computing educators with contrasting instructional philosophies and one undergraduate student) into reflective conversation as co-inquirers. The article uses it not to compare perspectives but as a process in which "student dialogue as evidence" progressively refines educators' interpretations across three stages: initial educator dialogue, student dialogue, and educator reflective reconstruction. It positions the method as narrowing the gap between observable programming products and actual AI-supported learning processes.
Accounts¶
- Trio-ethnography as a mechanism for evolving educators' interpretations of student learning through dialogue: Trio-ethnography brings three participants (here two computing educators with contrasting instructional philosophies and one undergraduate student) into reflective conversation as co-inquirers. (Jennie Ren et al. (2026))
Claims¶
- Student narratives complicated the educator assumption that copied AI answers imply no learning, revealing invisible post-AI learning activities [+M]
- Educators' interpretations of students' AI use evolved from perceived AI stigma toward emphasizing AI usage transparency and explicit AI guidance [+M]
