Description¶
The study treats the collaborating group as a dynamic system whose aggregated state is a three-dimensional vector of the members' heart rates, traced over the exam session. Vector quantization (VQ) discretizes the continuously varying heart-rate triplets: "This technique allowed the reduction of the number of system states and transitions between them, giving rise to delineable recurrent state patterns." Transitions occur when the heart-rate triplet changes enough to associate with another centroid in the codebook, making state pattern analysis feasible and allowing alignment of physiological state transitions with regulatory sequences.
