Description¶
When assessing whether a post-learning intervention benefits consolidation, the article recommends delaying the first memory test long enough for stimulation aftereffects to dissipate. The 2-h break "was implemented as a washout period in order to separate the effects of stimulation on early consolidation from the lingering effects of such stimulation on retrieval." The rationale draws on reports that alpha-band tACS aftereffects washed out once 70 min had passed, so testing at 120 min provided added caution.
Accounts¶
- Insert a washout period between post-learning stimulation and memory assessment to attribute benefits to consolidation rather than retrieval: When assessing whether a post-learning intervention benefits consolidation, the article recommends delaying the first memory test long enough for stimulation aftereffects to dissipate.
