Description¶
The What Works Clearinghouse rates interventions per outcome domain by combining study design quality with the magnitude, statistical significance, and consistency of findings. Ratings range from positive effects to no discernible effects; for example, "Potentially positive effects" requires "At least one study shows a statistically significant or substantively important positive effect" with no overriding contrary evidence. A finding is "substantively important" when it "has an effect size of 0.25 or greater, regardless of statistical significance." Extent of evidence is rated small, medium to large, based on the number of studies, schools, and total sample size.

Claims¶
- Everyday Mathematics® has potentially positive effects on mathematics achievement for primary students, with a substantively important but statistically non-significant effect size of 0.27 [+M]
- The evidence base for Everyday Mathematics® on primary mathematics achievement is small: one study of 3,436 students met WWC standards, and 33 of 34 eligible studies did not meet group design standards [+M]
