Description¶
The survey defines knowledge tracing (KT) as a learner-modeling task over sequences of exercise interactions: "knowledge tracing aims to monitor students’ evolving knowledge states during the learning process and predict their performance on future exercises." Each interaction pairs an exercise, its knowledge concepts, a correctness label and side information, and the traced states can then be used to individualize students' learning schemes.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A recorded sequence of learning interactions per student: the exercise, its related knowledge concepts, the correct/incorrect answer, and any side information
Constraints¶
- The survey notes KT quality is currently evaluated indirectly through the student performance prediction task rather than directly on the knowledge states
Target Learners¶
- Students whose exercise-answering interactions are recorded by online learning systems such as ASSISTments, Junyi Academy, Eedi and EdNet's Santa tutor
Target Learning Objectives¶
- Monitoring students' evolving knowledge states on knowledge concepts and predicting performance on future exercises
