Description

ADI is an inquiry-based instructional model that gives "a more central place to argumentation and the role of argument in the social construction of scientific knowledge while promoting inquiry." It comprises eight interrelated steps, from identification of the task and research question through developing a method, generating a tentative argument with claim, evidence and justification, an argumentation session, reflective discussion, writing an investigation report, double-blind group peer review, and report revision. In this study five ADI laboratory investigations (density, germination, light, power of lamp, shade) were run over ten weeks with groups of three or four students.
