Description¶
The article proposes a preliminary conceptual model of how community and citizen science projects connect schools with communities outside school. It defines three bridges: "The citizen bridge connects citizen communities and schools; the professional bridge connects professional communities and schools; and the student bridge connects new types of student communities and schools." A learning circle links the bridges through citizenship learning, community learning, and profession learning, with the educational design focus shifting by proximity to each bridge. The model frames the design and analysis of the two urban development projects.
Design Implications¶

Constraints¶
- The model is preliminary and "requires further empirical work to both explicate and validate it"
