Invest in professional learning and partnership infrastructure for both college instructors and school-based support staff¶

Description¶
The report finds the point person model functions because both sides receive training. Before entering the classroom, new instructors attend a course agreement meeting; they then "participate in professional development sessions at least twice per semester on topics that include adolescent brain development, mastery-based grading, and scaffolding strategies." OUSD partners with San Francisco State University to offer courses and stipends for dual enrollment instructors, while point people receive tools, templates, and training with autonomy to adapt to context. This dual investment creates a shared understanding of student needs and instructional strategies.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A dedicated district coordination team, partnership agreements with the community college, and funding for stipends and professional development
Constraints¶
- The report quotes district staff that the model is not very affordable; scaling requires deliberate investment in staffing, professional development, and institutional commitment
Target Learners¶
- High school students in dual enrollment courses
Learning Goals¶
- Effective college-level instruction adapted to high school contexts; consistent support for student success
