Description

The article constructs a competency-oriented ecological education model grounded in educational ecology theory and Astin's input-environment-output (IEO) framework. Educational ecology theory, rooted in Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems perspective, guided the design of a multilayered educational ecosystem comprising physical, classroom, and practice environments. The IEO model operationalized students' prior competencies as input variables, the three-tier ecological environment as environmental variables, and evidence-based practice competency outcomes as output variables, informing a four-year progressive pathway from evidence-based awareness in Year 1 to comprehensive application in Year 4.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

Target Learners

  • Undergraduate nursing students in a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program

Learning Goals

  • Evidence-based practice competency including evidence seeking, appraisal, synthesis, and application
