Six-part section structure for FEA-based experiential learning modules¶
Design · All designs
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
Each section of the FEA-based learning module followed a fixed internal structure of six sub-sections: "Educational objective, Problem description and objective analysis, Mathematical equation, General steps of the FE analysis, Comparison of analytical and numerical analysis, Summary and discussion". This structure pairs the mathematical formulation with numerical verification, supporting the cycle's movement from concrete experience to abstract conceptualization.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A commercial FEA package must be available; problems should be verifiable against analytical solutions
Constraints¶
- The pattern was designed for a lecture-and-tutorial course without laboratory facility
Target Learners¶
- undergraduate mechanical engineering education students
Target Goals¶
- connecting mathematical equations of heat transfer to numerical solutions
Claims¶
Related Patterns¶
- Six-step engineering design process as the teaching and learning sequence
- Weekly dance-first-then-physics cycle with dual experimental and experiential records
- Performance-objective-driven curriculum pattern pairing each stated objective with matched student activities
- Blended off-the-job and on-the-job module structure for supervisor training
Examples¶
- Predictability: Environment & Structure
- ANSYS Workbench commercial FEA software as a learning aid for heat transfer concepts
