Description

The Focus on Freshmen Study is a UChicago CCSR research project examining the transition to high school and the school practices that contribute to ninth-grade performance. It followed a cohort "as they moved from eighth grade in spring 2008, through the ninth grade year (2008-09) and into tenth grade in 2009-10," including about 22,000 students. It combined district-wide records, student and teacher surveys, longitudinal in-depth interviews of 55 students and their teachers, and classroom observations in English and math.
