Description¶
The study's reading materials consisted of two graded reader series, the Oxford Bookworms and the Penguin Readers, at levels 1–6, with "approximately 600 graded reader books available for this study, with approximately 100 books available for participants to select from at each level". Levels were harmonized using the Extensive Reading Foundation graded reader scale so that books from different publishers could be compared in difficulty. Learners were placed at a level based on a 95 percent understanding of the text level vocabulary.
Design Implications¶
