Description¶
The article contributes a design framework combining learning-on-the-move with Enyedy and Yoon's five-part immersion framework, called SANSE: "sensory, actional, narrative, social, and emancipatory" immersion. These immersive processes are operationalized as design conjectures (Table 2) specifying how MAR features—prompts, filters, GPS wayfinding, photo-taking—support intergenerational family sense-making about geologic time in outdoor informal settings. Each conjecture pairs the immersion category with Time Explorers examples, grounding XR-time-travel narratives in learners' physical place.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- A place-based outdoor setting with physical specimens or exhibits the app content can connect to
- A mobile augmented reality app delivering content triggered by GPS location or markers
Constraints¶
- The article found no substantial example of emancipatory immersion from its own data
Target Learners¶
- Intergenerational families with children aged 5–12 in informal outdoor settings
Learning Goals¶
- Understanding geologic time scale and land–water geoscience processes through collaborative place-based sense-making
