Description

The article describes an instructional model that combines the Inquiry Training learning model with the Just In Time Teaching strategy so as "to streamline the learning time in the classroom using intermediate media information and communication technology". It proceeds through five phases: exposing problems via pre-class web assignments, finding problems through hypothesis formulation, reviewing data and conducting experiments in class, organizing and formulating explanations, and analyzing the research process with student presentations. The lecturer acts as facilitator and director during classroom experiments.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Pre-class assignments and materials delivered via a website so classroom time can start from the experiment phase
  • Lecturer-developed teaching materials and worksheets tested on students outside the sample

Constraints

  • Evaluated in General Physics II with Physics Department students at State University of Medan

Target Learners

  • undergraduate physics students in General Physics II

Learning Goals

  • physics problem-solving ability
  • critical thinking and intellectual skills through inquiry
