Description

The article develops a conceptual framework of four pillars for tailoring generative interfaces to learning: "curriculum alignment; agency and motivation; guidance and scaffolding; formative feedback." Each pillar is mapped to a concrete UX/UI choice in Table 1: articulated teacher-approved learning objectives, progressive difficulty challenges balancing achievement and self-efficacy, AI-generated scaffolding such as multi-tiered hints and real-time context-aware feedback that prompts critical thinking rather than revealing answers, and introspective intros and solvers with worked solutions. The framework grounds the generation pipeline's pedagogical guardrails.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Each pillar must be implemented via a corresponding UX/UI choice in the generated interactive, as detailed in Table 1

Constraints

  • Off-the-shelf Gen-UI models lack optimization for pedagogical precision, so the pillars must be imposed as guardrails rather than assumed

Target Learners

  • K-12 and undergraduate STEM students across primary, middle school, high school and undergraduate levels

Learning Goals

  • STEM conceptual understanding through active inquiry, hypothesis testing, and variable manipulation in simulations and mini-games
