Description¶
The article presents LXD as a design framework extending beyond traditional instructional design, defined as "creating learning situations that extend beyond the formal classroom learning environment and often integrate online and virtual technological formats". It adopts Floor's (2018) five fundamentals: human-centered, goal-oriented, grounded in theories of learning, learning through practice, and heavily interdisciplinary. In this study the authors implemented the LXD framework to build a blended learning pedagogical approach integrating interactive video-based mathematics for elementary students in the classroom.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- The article states LXD employs one or more pedagogical frameworks that serve as the basis for the learning theories operationalized in the course
Constraints¶
- The article notes further research and practical applications of LXD are needed to enhance educational practices and meet the diverse needs of learners in various learning environments
Target Learners¶
- elementary students in blended classrooms
Learning Goals¶
- engagement in mathematics learning
- proportional reasoning
