Description¶
The programme taught speaking skills through "nine units comprising eleven lessons", each unit focusing on "a particular main function or a certain spoken genre". Across the lessons students performed tasks such as describing and finding differences, discussing ideas and opinions, solving problems, conducting interviews, exchanging information in information-gap tasks, narrating stories to peers, and role-playing social and interactional functions. Sample lessons were reviewed by four ESL specialists, who approved the programme and suggested giving students more practice and allocating more teaching time.
