Paired Reading session procedure: supported reading, error correction with wait time, questioning, praise and log books¶
Design · All designs
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
Each Paired Reading session follows a structured sequence: the tutee chooses a book above their independent reading ability, the pair reads aloud together, then the tutee reads alone while the tutor monitors. Error correction uses a wait window: "the tutor waits for 4 or 5 seconds, providing the tutee with the opportunity to self-correct" before supplying the correct pronunciation, followed by praise and a return to reading together. Questioning before, during and after reading, structured praise cards, and log books recording progress form a formal system of ongoing peer assessment through feedback.
