Description¶
The study used a pc-based visual cognitive task based on the Posner cue paradigm to assess reaction time, accuracy and inhibition. The task presented 336 target stimuli across three categories: "no cue", "valid cue" and "invalid cue", where 56 (17%) appeared without a cue, 224 (67%) in the same rectangle as the cue, and 56 (17%) in the opposite rectangle. Participants fixated on a crosshair and pressed keys to indicate which rectangle the target asterisk appeared in, instructed to ignore the cue stimulus.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Performed on a 13.3-inch laptop programmed with E-prime 2.0
- Carried out in a quiet location without distractions, wearing hearing protectors
- Oral instruction and a small practice run before the actual task
Constraints¶
- Task duration was 9 min and 20 s
- The order of inter-stimuli interval, stimuli and cues was fixed for all participants
Target Learners¶
- healthy male high-school students
Learning Goals¶
- selective attention
- inhibitory control
- reaction time
- response accuracy
Claims¶
- Rt Differs Across Cue Conditions [+M]
- Vo2Max Associated Faster Rt Invalid Cue [+M]
- Vo2Max Associated Faster Rt Valid Cue [+M]
