Description¶
The article proposes that summer sport and leisure activity camps, emphasizing less-competitive sports, social interaction, and fun rather than academics or winning, provide a unique experience where children can learn new skills, build friendships, and experience personal growth. In this setting, children get the chance to participate in activities and games with peers on a daily basis, which foster inclusion and develop close relationships. The authors hypothesize that the camp's emphasis on having fun daily and being part of a team rather than competition and winning explains why sport-specific attitudes improved here, contrasting with prior school physical education findings.
