Description

SQ3R is a reading comprehension strategy with five stages: Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review. In the Survey stage readers skim "the main titles, subtitles and abstract and visuals"; in the Question stage titles are transformed into questions; Reading is an "active" attempt to answer those questions; Recite has students answer questions in their own words; and Review revisits notes and re-reads if necessary. The article describes it as one of the oldest and most common reading strategies, developed to provide a more productive reading process that improves comprehension, memorization and time management.
