Stand-alone Tier 2 intervention: Sound Partners plus Bridge of Vocabulary and Language in Motion¶
Design · All designs
Evidence · no claims cited
Description¶
A supplementary Tier 2 intervention combining three externally developed programs: Sound Partners, a scripted program providing "explicit and systematic instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, and reading"; Bridge of Vocabulary, a semiscripted vocabulary program using manipulatives and discussion; and Language in Motion, a scripted program building syntax and listening comprehension through science-based manipulatives, interactive stories, and games. It was delivered as a 25–30-minute daily reading component plus a 15-minute daily language component.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Interventionists administer skill assessments after every 10 Sound Partners lessons and repeat lessons when skills are not mastered
- Two-day training in late September plus manuals and instructional materials
Constraints¶
- No WWC-rated language intervention programs existed for at-risk K–2 students, so vocabulary and language components were selected on clinical and efficacy evidence rather than WWC ratings
Target Learners¶
- K–2 students below the 30th percentile in vocabulary and reading-related skills
Learning Goals¶
- Phonemic awareness, phonics, spelling, word reading, vocabulary, syntax, and listening comprehension
Claims¶
- Stand Alone Improves Grade2 Spelling Over Embedded [+M]
