Description¶

A 10-hour instructional module (5 x 2-hour lectures) delivered within a 40-hour literacy education course for first-year preservice teachers, covering phonological awareness (~4 hours), orthographic awareness (~2 hours), morphological awareness (~2 hours), and spelling analysis and selection of appropriate teaching focus (~2 hours). The course "utilised a blended model to support students' learning", with readings, video clips and interactive activities online, and lecture recordings accessible multiple times. The final component had students work in small groups to score and analyse 17 spelling samples from children aged 6-7 years, group children by instructional focus, and report findings with lecturer feedback.
