Three facilitation roles for STEM learning teams

Design · All designs

Description

Drawing on research the synthesis cites, facilitators of STEM learning teams fulfill three distinct roles: "facilitating knowledge, including helping to find relevant STEM or STEM education expertise if/as needed; processing facilitation to attend to the structure and interaction of the groups; and focusing facilitation to keep the group on target." Facilitation, whether face-to-face, online, or combined, requires engagement, tact, careful listening, and content and pedagogical knowledge. The framework treats helping adults learn as a distinct expertise from teaching children.
