Description¶
The site coordinator, a role common to US PREP residency transformation sites, fulfills the responsibilities of traditional university field supervisors—"supervising, coaching, and conducting observations for residents during their clinical experience"—while also teaching practicum seminars and methods courses, training and collaborating with mentor teachers, supporting residents emotionally, and facilitating quarterly governance meetings with partner districts. Because site coordinators' work touches many dimensions of candidates' experiences, candidate support structures are well scaffolded and aligned.
Design Implications¶
Context¶
Requirements¶
- Sufficient staffing to maintain a low ratio of teacher candidates to site coordinators, enabling frequent, meaningful feedback to each candidate
- Personnel with both coaching and instructional expertise
Constraints¶
- The report recommends recruiting site coordinators from educators nearing retirement, senior teachers, and instructional leaders, implying supply considerations
Target Learners¶
- Teacher residents in yearlong clinical placements
Learning Goals¶
- Clinical skill development through frequent observation, coaching, and feedback
