Description

A multi-week intervention for high school students built around the Abbreviated Time Management Index, which assesses six facets. Students received "feedback on three of these facets (setting goals, planning ahead, and organizing time and tasks) that was tailored to their skill level", discussed results with a school counselor, and completed weekly homework assignments (three in Study 1, five in Study 2). All students completed identical homework, so the crux of the intervention was the same for everyone.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Delivery via a school counselor who discusses assessment, feedback, and homework results with whole classes
  • A national comparison sample of same-age students for classifying students into skill buckets

Constraints

  • Feedback differed only by self-reported skill level while homework was identical, which the authors offer as a reason skill-bucket analyses showed no interactions
  • Study 1's version was brief, consisting of only two assessments and three homework assignments

Target Learners

  • ninth-grade high school students

Learning Goals

  • time management skills: setting goals, planning ahead, organizing time and tasks
