Description

An e-learning module on the Electronics topic Transistors, packaged as a compact disc with interactive learning material. It "consisted of six lessons on the topic 'Transistors'" covering Operation of a Transistor, Transistor Configurations, Transistor Characteristics, Transistor DC Load Lines, Analysis of Bias Circuits and Transistor Ratings, and was designed using DHTML, Circuit Maker 2000, JavaScript, CorelDraw and Dreamweaver. It was used to teach groups E and C2, allowing learners some degree of control over their learning activities.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Lecturers and students in the groups using it were trained in fundamentals of computing for 5 hours of hands-on computer operation one week prior to the study

Constraints

  • Designed for the established Kenyan curriculum topic Transistors as specified by the Ministry of Education (1992)

Target Learners

  • first-year Electronic Engineering diploma students in Kenyan National Polytechnics

Learning Goals

  • understanding of transistor operation, configurations, characteristics, DC load lines, bias circuits and ratings
  • positive attitudes toward the Electronics topic
