Description

'Y-read?' is a digital learning environment integrating a collaboration script and the TOR-test, built from four script elements: play, scene, scriptlets and roles. The "macro-level script combines the components 'play', 'scene' and 'roles'" and guides four scenes: pre-task group planning, individual task execution, individual reflection and post-task group reflection. A stated novelty is "a full automation flow of role information and related learning materials to different participants on four different tablets that synchronously drive face-to-face collaboration". Roles were rotated across four lessons.

Design Implications

Context

Requirements

  • Students collaborate face-to-face in groups of four, each with their own device; information distribution follows the Jigsaw distributed-information principle to elicit interdependency.

Constraints

  • Only pre- and post-task regulation was performed collaboratively; task execution and individual reflection were individual phases.

Target Learners

  • prevocational secondary school students (10th grade, average age 15.7)

Learning Goals

  • metacognitive regulation of task-oriented reading: task representation, strategy selection, strategy reflection
