Description¶
A programme run by UNAL's National Directorate of Pedagogical Innovation that supports collaborative pedagogical innovation projects intended to foster Professional Learning Communities across campuses and faculties.
Components¶
- I3P stage-based model: open innovation as a strategy to foster Professional Learning Communities in higher education: The I3P (Pedagogical Innovation Initiatives Incubator) is a stage-based program model proposed by UNAL's National Directorate of Pedagogical Innovation. As the article states, "a stage-based model was proposed (see Figure 1), based on Open Innovation (OI) as a strategy to foster the formation of Professional Learning Communities (PLC) among members of different campuses and faculties at UNAL". It operationalizes open innovation—the free flow of inbound and outbound knowledge—by letting community members (faculty, students, alumni, administrative staff) propose and run collaborative pedagogical innovation projects across calls with distinct foci, with team monitoring and differentiated suppor (Layton-Jaramillo et al. (2025))
Claims¶
- Teams consolidated as PLCs regardless of the type of prior connections that formed them, with no significant differences across connection types [+M]
- The 15 pedagogical innovation projects benefited approximately 1,800 students and produced improvements in problematic aspects of science teaching and learning at UNAL [+M]
- Teams from all three I3P calls functioned as PLCs at the implementation stage, with no statistically significant differences between calls across the five PLC dimensions [+W]
- Content analysis of project reports identified five factors contributing to PLC formation (common interests, communication systems, mutual learning, collaborative work, UNAL values) and three hindering factors (administrative management, project scheduling, personal non-compliance) [+W]
- PLC development by promoting role: administrative-staff-led PLCs rated shared leadership lower but shared values higher than teacher- and student-led PLCs, with no statistically significant differences [+W]
