Description¶
LOGAX is an interactive e-learning tutoring tool developed by Josje Lodder and colleagues for helping premaster and bachelor computer-science students construct Hilbert-style axiomatic proofs in propositional logic.
Components¶
- LOGAX e-learning tool for Hilbert-style axiomatic proofs: LOGAX is an interactive tutoring tool in which students stepwise construct Hilbert-style axiomatic proofs in propositional logic using axioms a, b, c, Modus Ponens and the deduction theorem. As the article states, "LOGAX provides feedback, hints at different levels, next steps, and complete solutions." A dialog box lets students choose a rule and fill in line numbers while the software performs the step, and students can formulate their own exercises and ask for hints, a next step, or a complete proof at any moment. (Josje Lodder et al. (2021))
- Dynamic recalculation of the solution space for hints in open solution domains: For domains like axiomatic proofs where not all solutions can be calculated upfront, the article proposes generating proofs automatically and extending them dynamically. As the authors put it, "If a student takes a step outside the current solution space, LOGAX dynamically recalculates the solution space, taking the student step as a starting point." The new solution space then serves as the source for hints and feedback, so the tutor can always respond even to diverging student steps. The authors present this dynamic approach as central to their solution and suggest similar techniques would be useful for ITSs in other multi-solution domains. (Josje Lodder et al. (2021))
Claims¶
