Description

A study-specific student questionnaire created and administered by the evaluation team to measure mathematical experiences, belonging, self-efficacy, and perceptions of instructional implementation.

Components

  • Short student survey measuring mathematical experiences, sense of belonging, and mathematics self-efficacy: A student-facing instrument, taking "no longer than 15 minutes to complete," administered at the beginning and end of each school year to triangulate teacher self-reports of implementation. It uses the same construct categories as the teacher survey—coherence, cognitive demand, collaboration and discourse, formative assessment, and differentiation—with items drawn from existing valid and reliable instruments. It includes belonging items, described as a significant predictor of motivation, and "Nine additional survey items were also included to replicate a reliable self-efficacy scale." The team plans exploratory factor analysis and correlation plots to compare teacher and student reports. (Perry et al. (2026))
