Description¶
A framework developed by Summer Learning et al. for designing intellectually rigorous and equitable summer-learning settings through six interrelated principles addressing relationships, belonging, whole-child learning, knowledge, creative inquiry, and educator needs.
Components¶
Claims¶
- Intensive remediation alone will not meet students' needs and, if segregating and stigmatizing, can deepen inequality and trauma [+M]
- Children learn more effectively when they feel secure and have positive feelings about the people and content they encounter [+M]
- Learning happens best when students feel a sense of belonging, while alienation and exclusion create cognitive barriers [+M]
- Reinstating high-stakes testing to measure learning loss narrows the curriculum and does not benefit long-term achievement [+M]
- Tutoring is highly effective, and hiring older peers as tutors supports learning gains for both older and younger students [+M]
